Sun May 22 06:34pm

Good evening,

A huge thank you to our community. Many families have indicated that they can keep their child/ren home tomorrow, which means that we can send a large group of St Joseph’s staff to pay their respects at Laurie Henry’s funeral tomorrow. We are truly appreciative of the support that our St Joseph’s community have show for Maureen and our staff at this time.

Please note, if you filled in the form to say you are able to keep your child home, you do not need to notify us of the absence on the app or email, we have it recorded already.

Some parents of Year 5&6 children have also said they can pick their child up on return from the museum. The bus is due at 12.00pm, so come any time from 12.15 and sign your child out at the office.

If you missed this information, it was sent out on all our platforms on Friday afternoon. Tomorrow Monday 23 May will be a supervision only day across the school to allow staff at to attend a funeral, except for Year 4-6 who should come to school for the museum trip. The google form link is below:

Once again, thank you so much for your support.

Staff attending funeral on Monday – Supervision Day. Click for more details.

Fri May 20 02:26pm

Kia ora whānau,
Our school staff are mourning the loss of Laurie Henry who passed away on Monday night. Laurie was the husband of our beloved Maureen Henry. Maureen is our longest standing staff member – she has worked at St Joseph’s for over 30 years, and she still teaches our New Entrants every Friday.
Both Maureen and Laurie are so loved and respected by our staff. Laurie had a long career in education; he was a former Waikato Principal and was still relieving in our school and many others just a few years ago.
Many of us would like to pay our respects at Laurie’s funeral on Monday. It is to be held in Cambridge in the middle of the day. This means we will be running a “supervision only” programme across the whole school on Monday so that staff can attend. Year 4-6 are visiting the museum on Monday – this trip will proceed as planned.
If some families are able to keep their children home on Monday, it will allow us to send more staff to pay their respects at Laurie’s funeral. We know there have already been many disruptions due to covid, so this is not something we ask lightly; it is a sign of our love and respect for the Henry’s.
To assist our planning so that we ensure there are enough staff onsite, could you please fill in the google form below to let us know if you can keep your child home on Monday.
Remember: Year 4-6 children should come to school so they don’t miss the Museum visit!
We appreciate your support in this so that staff can say our farewells to Laurie, and support Maureen. Please keep the Henry whānau in your prayers.
Thank you.
Tracy Svendsen – Deputy Principal.

Covid Update: Monday 9 May

Mon May 09 03:29pm

Kia ora whānau,

It has been a great start to the term being in Orange for the Covid Protection Framework. We are enjoying the sense of normality having parents back onsite for drop offs, sports practices and meetings.

We currently have several families who are isolating, and we will continue to keep you informed when we know of children who have potentially been infectious at school.

Currently, we are aware of one student in Year 4 who was at school last week and has tested positive over the weekend. Please keep us informed if covid is in your household, and let us know if there is anything we can do to help you.

Thanks for your ongoing support.

Unite against COVID-19

From 11.59pm tonight, 13 April all of New Zealand will move to Orange 🟠

Over the past few weeks we’ve seen a sustained reduction in cases and hospitalisations despite the relaxation of settings. Under the COVID-19 Protection Framework, this means we can now move to the Orange setting.

At Orange 🟠
➡️ There are no indoor or outdoor capacity limits at events.
➡️ Face masks are still required for many indoor settings. Inside schools, face masks are not required but still encouraged.
➡️ There are no changes to the 7-day self-isolation requirement, if you, or someone you live with gets COVID-19.
➡️ Bars and restaurants are no longer required to enforce seated and separated rules, although they can choose to keep them.

Wearing a face mask at Orange is still important, especially with capacity limits removed. Next to being vaccinated and having a booster, face masks are the best defence against COVID-19 and reduce new cases by as much as 53%.

Traffic light settings will be reviewed in mid-May.
